Vlorë, a Mediterraean city of palm trees and Italian influenced life. This city, at the divide of the Adriatic and Ionian seas, is famous to Albanian as the birth of Albanian Independence in 1912.
The history of Vlore can easily be found in antiquity as Roman poets during the 1st and 2nd centuries CE spoke frequently about Vlore (Aulon). The highlights of the region were healthy productions of fine wool and wine with and easy ports for Italian vessels. As the years past through the centuries though, Vlora lay a danger to itself as it's a region of frequent travelers led to invasions of the Normans aroud the 1st millenium, the Ottomans in the 1400s, and Albanian investment schemes of the late 20th century which have left their historical, cultural, and financial marks.
Vlora today is a growing, seaside city with lots of potential in tourism, shopping holidays for locals, and shipping once again. The beach areas are tourism favorite which line the main road which urban tranport easily whisks beach lovers to sandy areas or the many cafes, restauarants, and clubs for quiet or lively entertainment.
